Wyre Seagulls vs Blackburn Buccaneers – The Ice Hockey Summer Classic

Seagulls pick up where they left off!

The Seagulls began their defence of the ice hockey summer classic at home to the Blackburn Buccaneers on Sunday.

Wyre were looking to extend their unbeaten streak in this competition to 12 games but were mindful going into the game that the Buccaneers would want to lay down a marker in their return to the summer classic.

The game was cagey for the first two periods, with the first period ending 1-1 & the second 3-1 to the home side. The buccaneers defended stoutly and were difficult to break down, trying to hit Wyre on the break when the opportunities came. With the seagulls not finding their game, the long period break before the third allowed the guys to get to the changing room and regroup. This helped the seagulls as they came out flying in the third with four unanswered goals. Last years top point scorer Kieron Hardman got his second and later completed his hat trick for a four point night.

Thank you to the Blackburn Buccaneers who played really well and will be tough opposition for everyone this season.
