STORMERS 9 – 7 WILDCATS
It was a quick start to the game, with early goals being traded quickly on Grimsby’s “postage stamp”. The visiting team up 3-1 in the first three minutes! A busy first period would see five different Wildcat players on the score sheet while Lewis Fenwick and Jason Coates found the back of the net twice each: end of the first 5-4.
The Stormers just couldn’t fight back in the second with no goals at all, but three penalties against them in the middle period kept Grimsby under pressure, Wildcats adding two to their tally, 7-4 to end of the second.
The third period started with frayed tensions, with penalties galore, Wildcats amassing 48 PIMs over the game. Still, the Stormers could not convert on the power play, but the possession and pressure gave them the confidence needed to mount a comeback: five different Stormers found the back of the net in the final frame, including Lewis converting a hat trick, to complete the comeback in an end to end, high scoring affair: 9-7 the final score.
The Wildcats, as always, were great bunch who gave their all until the end despite the whistle going against them in the final frame: good luck with the rest of the season and we’ll hopefully see you in the playoffs!
